Porcelain veneers are thin, custom shaped shells that are designed to cover the entire front and part of the back surface of the teeth. Porcelain veneers can dramatically improve the appearance of anyone’s teeth.
Veneers are commonly used to fix:
- Discolored Teeth – Due to root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs; or the presence of resin veneers or fillings that have discolored over time.
- Teeth that are worn down due to nail biting or jaw grinding
- Teeth that are chipped or broken
- Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped
- Teeth with gaps between them
The procedure for getting Porcelain Veneers:
Once a patient has decided they would like to get porcelain veneers, we will require at least two office visits with Dr. Ghiani and his team. The first visit will include the consultation, as well as preparation of the teeth. To prepare a tooth for a veneer, Dr. Ghiani will remove about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is about the same thickness as the porcelain veneer that will be applied. We then prepare a model or impression of your teeth to ensure a proper fit, and send it to our dental lab for the creation the veneers.
Over the next 1-2 weeks, our dental lab will construct your veneers to our exact specifications. If you are concerned about the appearance of your freshly prepared teeth, we can cover them with a temporary resin veneer to hold you over until the permanent porcelain veneers are ready to be permanently bonded to your teeth.
Before we permanently bond the porcelain veneer to your tooth, we will temporarily place it and make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit and match to the surrounding teeth. Once the correct color and placement are achieved, we will permanently bond the veneers to your teeth, providing you with many years of enjoyment with your new beautiful smile!
